I live in Philadelphia and I’d like to travel with my son (who uses a power wheelchair) to Springfield, MA this summer. I’m trying to find another option besides Amtrak, as the train takes so long. I’m not real keen on driving all that way either. Do you have any suggestions?
If you are worried about the time, the quickest option is to fly to Hartford, then rent an accessible van and drive to Springfield. Both American and US Airways have non-stop flights from Philadelphia to Springfield, and Wheelchair Vans of America will deliver an accessible van to Bradley International Airport. The flight takes just over an hour, and Springfield is a half-hour drive from the airport. Compared to the five-hour train trip or the four-hour drive from Philadelphia, it’s really the fastest and easiest way to get there. Plus, your son is going to need accessible transportation once he gets to Springfield anyway, and if you have a rental van, you can go wherever you want whenever you want. This fly-drive option really offers a lot of flexibility
