A special civil rights exhibit, “The Long Struggle: Presidential Actions and African-American Civil Rights,” opened early this month at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. This unique exhibit, which runs through May 18, 2008, examines the actions and influences of U.S. Presidents on civil rights issues during a one hundred year period, from 1860 through the civil rights movement.

This must-see exhibit focuses on many of the decisions, laws, and acts signed by some of our presidents and examines how these presidential actions impacted the lives of the average African American citizen, both in Arkansas as well as throughout the country.

Additionally, visitors will be able to view the original Emancipation Proclamation, which will be on special loan to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, from September 22-25, 2007.

Access is excellent at the presidential library, with barrier-free access to all galleries, sleek wood floors, accessible restrooms and level access to the front entrance. Wheelchairs are also available for loan at the front desk.

The William J. Clinton Presidential Library houses a large collection of exhibits which chronicle the Clinton presidency, including a replica of the oval office (complete with a moon rock), items from Bill’s childhood, and even a collection of Saturday Night Live clips featuring Clinton impersonations.

Located at the eastern end of Little Rock’s renovated River Market District, the presidential library is the jewel of this redeveloped cultural and entertainment district. The River Market District also features a bounty of restaurants, galleries, museums and historic attractions, many of which are wheelchair accessible.
