On Saturday July 21, 2007, Kelowna will celebrate the annual cherry harvest with the 2007 Cherry Fair. Slated to run from 10 A.M. TO 3 P.M., the event will be held at the BC Orchard Industry Museum, in the heart of Kelowna’s cultural district. The fair will feature entertaining activities for the whole family, including educational children’s activities, a 50' model railroad, interpretation of the orchard industry by the Learning Tree and tastings of locally grown cherries.

The BC Orchard Industry Museum is housed in the historic Laurel Packinghouse, on the corner of Cawston and Ellis Streets. Established in 1917 as a shipping house for local produce, today it’s been renovated to include modern access features. There are steps at the front entrance, but there is a ramped entrance in back, just off Ellis Street. Inside you’ll find barrier-free access throughout the space, along with very wheelable hardwood floors.

Located just five hours from Spokane or Vancouver, Kelowna is the largest town in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. This agricultural center offers the best of both worlds, as it’s surrounded by scenic country, yet it has a thriving cultural district. And although not every place in Kelowna is wheelchair-accessible, there’s certainly a healthy sampling of tourist attractions and agritourism sites that offer good access.
