Delaware North Parks and Resorts recently unveiled a number of access upgrades to Kennedy Space Center. As the management company for the Kennedy Space Center visitors complex, Delaware North Parks and Resorts worked closely with representatives throughout the disability community to insure their access improvements were both inclusive and appropriate. This project took approximately five years to complete.

“Our goal was to make certain that every guest and their family would enjoy the same opportunity to tour Kennedy Space Center independently and experience everything it has to offer,” said Jennifer Skaja, ADA/Guest Service Manager. “This is an ever-evolving process, but one that we’re committed to so that all of our guests can easily experience Kennedy Space Center.”

Access is excellent throughout Kennedy Space Center, with level walkways, wide doorways, accessible restrooms and ample space to maneuver in all the exhibition areas. Access brochures are available at the ticket booths and wheelchairs are available for loan in the courtyard behind the information center.

Access improvements to Kennedy Space Center include a fleet of new lift-equipped buses, wheelchair lifts for the IMAX Theaters and improved line-of-sight accessible theater seating. Accessibility training for Kennedy Space Center crewmembers is also incorporated into the orientation program for all new employees.

The changes made by Delaware North Parks and Resorts and Kennedy Space Center have been widely recognized by organizations within the disability community. The Able Trust, Florida Governor's Alliance for Citizens with Disabilities and the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind all have commended Kennedy Space Center with awards or certificates of recognition.
