Las Vegas will celebrate its 100th birthday on May 15, 2005 with a huge birthday bash during Helldorado Days, a six day celebration which will feature a re-creation of old Las Vegas.
Helldorado Days will be staged at the Main Street Station parking lot from May 10 through 15. It will include a Western Village with a fully operating post office, a livery stable, a general store, live entertainment and lots of food vendors.
Las Vegas, which was originally called Clark’s Las Vegas Townsite, was officially born on May 15, 1905 when 110 acres of land were auctioned off by the railroad. This land auction will be reenacted on May 15, 2005 in the Western Village at the Main Street Station parking lot.
You won’t want to miss the cake-cutting ceremony either. A 130,000-pound birthday cake, which is registered with the Guiness Book of World Records, will be cut and served to all attendees. This event will take place under the canopy at the Fremont Street Experience beginning at dusk. Everyone is welcome, so come on out and help Las Vegas celebrate.
