Over 300 handcrafted quilts will take center stage later this month when they're auctioned off at the 35th annual Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale in Goshen, Indiana. Although Mennonite relief sales are held annually across America, the Michiana event is well known for its large quilt auction. And that really shouldn't come as a big surprise, as it's held in heart of Indiana Amish country; a region that's famous for its quality handcrafted quilts.

The quilt auction is a big draw at the Michiana event, so get there early. Local crafters donate beautiful handmade quilts which are auctioned off throughout the day. A large number of domestic items are also for sale, including fabrics, plants, centerpieces, rugs, produce and crafts. Plus there's a good selection of food items, from barbecued chicken and pork to homemade cakes and pies. Something for everybody. Proceeds from the event help support Mennonite relief efforts around the world.

This years event is slated for Saturday, September 28 and it will be held at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds. Admission is free and the gates open at 6 AM. The quilt auction begins promptly at 8 AM. The Elkhart County Fairgrounds are located just east of US 33 on CR 34 in Goshen. Visit www.4hfair.org for detailed driving directions.

Accessible parking is available in an asphalt lot (the red lot) but get there early as the accessible spaces go fast. There is level access to the fair buildings, and accessible restrooms are located throughout the complex. The grounds are paved and level and easy to navigate in a wheelchair or scooter. For more information about fairground access call (219) 533-3247.
