If a trip to Santa Cruz is in your future, don’t leave home without Access Santa Cruz. This 64-page bilingual access guide contains access information on over 100 restaurants, hotels, parks and facilities throughout Santa Cruz County. Released in 2003, Access Santa Cruz is published by Shared Adventures, a Santa Cruz-based non-profit organization.

According to Foster Andersen, president and founder of Shared Adventures, “This resource guide for people with special needs and physical challenges is going to make a big difference for many people.“ The Shared Adventures staff spent more than a year compiling the guide and they visited all of the establishments listed, in order to verify the access details.

The guide features listings describing each facility and it also includes a detailed map of Santa Cruz County plus information on accessible transportation. It was designed to meet the needs of both visitors and residents.

Access Santa Cruz was made possible with funding from The Christopher Reeve Foundation, Newman’s Own Organics and the Santa Cruz Community Foundation.

Request your free copy of Access Santa Cruz from the Santa Cruz Visitors Council at (831) 425-1234. Copies are also available at local visitor centers, colleges, pharmacies and medical offices.

Shared Adventures offers a full calendar of accessible recreation opportunities throughout the year. Recent offerings included kayaking on Elkhorn Slough, sailing in the harbor and camping at Manresa Beach. These group activities are reasonably priced and accessible to everyone.

Shared Adventures also hosts the annual Day On The Beach every July. This day-long event gives people the opportunity to try out a variety of adaptive recreational activities such as canoeing, surfing, kayaking and SCUBA diving.
