Steamboat Springs is set to host the second annual Adaptive Ski Camp for advanced skiers with disabilities next month. This unique event, which is slated to run from January 12-16, 2007, offers advanced monoskiers and three-track skiers the opportunity to improve their skills and to experience backcountry skiing and the deep powder conditions of Steamboat Springs.
Sponsored by the Steamboat Ski Area, Steamboat Powder Cats and Access Anything, the camp is made possible due to the overwhelming support and generosity of the local community. Powder Cats donates their entire $10,000 backcountry operation for a day and local restaurants team together to provide meals, while lodging managers donate hotel rooms. This city-wide team effort makes the event affordable to all participants.
Last year the camp featured three days of skiing in Steamboat Springs' famous champagne powder; however the highlight of the event was the backcountry skiing day. Powder Cats loaded four snow cats up with over 40 disabled skiers and instructors, including eight monoskiers, and led them into neck-deep powder. This years' participants can expect an equally exhilarating itinerary.

Thanks to this ski camp and other adaptive ski events, Steamboat Springs is now more accessible than ever. Find out more about it in the Winter 2007 issue of Emerging Horizons.
