On June 10-13, 2004 San Antonio once again celebrates the cultural diversity and vibrant history of the Lone Star State at the 33rd Annual Texas Folklife Festival. Held at the Institute of Texan Cultures in downtown San Antonio, the festival features Texas food, crafts, live music, dance performances and a carnival of rides.
More than 40 ethnic and cultural groups will descend on San Antonio from 64 counties and 99 Texas cities to share their traditions using a unique blend of entertainment and education. Activities range from wine and soap making to a luau and even a watermelon-spitting contest.
Tickets at the gate are $10 for adults (13 and older), $6 for seniors (55 and over), $6 for active or retired military with I.D. and $4 for children (ages 6- 12). Children under 6 are admitted free.
The Institute of Texan Cultures presents the Texas Folklife Festival as an extension of its role as a statewide educational center. The Institute, which opened its doors in 1968 as the Texas Pavilion for HemisFair, includes exhibits featuring more than 27 cultures that settled the state of Texas.
Access at the Institute of Texan Cultures is excellent with accessible parking, restrooms, wide doorways, a level entrance and barrier-free pathways to the exhibits. For more information about the Texas Folklife Festival visit www.texasfolklifefestival.org.
