I’m planning a trip to British Columbia this summer, and I’d like to rent a wheelchair-accessible motorhome for the trip. I plan to fly into Vancouver, and would like to pick up the vehicle there. Do you know of any companies in the area that rent wheelchair-accessible motorhomes? Also, do you have any idea of the rental rates and the accessible features of the vehicles?
Up until recently you would have been out of luck, however Chris Loscerbo now operates B.C Wheelchair Friendly Services, which has two-wheelchair-accessible rigs for rent. A power wheelchair-user himself, Chris realizes the sense of independence and freedom that hitting the road in your own RV gives you, and he wants to share that experience with others.
Both motorhomes are Ford F100s – one is 32-feet long and the other is 24-feet long. Access features include a lift, and a 48-inch wide side door. The 32-foot right also has a hoyer lift. Both vehicles come with fully equipped kitchen. Linens, lawn chairs, an outdoor lamp and an axe are also available.
The 32-foot rig rents for $225 per day, plus $.75 per km, and the 24-foot rig rents for $220 per day and $.75 per km. A $500 deposit is required. For more information, visit www.wheelchairfriendlyvacation.com/motorhome.html, or give Chris a call at (250) 246-9971.
