In an effort to assist wheelchair-users and slow walkers, Hamburg Tourismus GmbH offers two excellent travel planning resources. At the top of the list is the information-filled website at www.barrierefrei-hh.de, which contains everything from airport access details to resources for renting hospital beds and wheelchairs. A large section on accessible museums, gardens, parks, movie theaters and shopping venues is also included. And if you’re looking for an accessible place to rest your head, the website offers a database of wheelchair-accessible hotels in Hamburg. Additionally a 124-page print access guide is available that contains helpful tips for wheelchair-users, and includes detailed access information on museums, theaters, churches, parks, hotels and restaurants in Hamburg. There’s no charge for this guide, which is available at the Tourist Information Centers at the harbor (between bridges 4 and 5), and at Central Station North (railway station).
